Debbie Groom is our newly appointed member of the Greenland School District Board of Education representing Zone 2. We welcome Ms. Groom and thank her for serving the community.
Debbie has lived in Greenland, Arkansas, for forty-two years. She is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a B.A. degree in English and obtained her Juris
Doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1978.
After serving as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Sebastian County, Ms. Groom went to
work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas in 1983, where she
served for 35 years, retiring in March 2019. During her time at the U.S. Attorney’s office, Ms.
Groom held positions as Chief of the Civil Division, and First Assistant U.S. Attorney. She served as Acting U.S. Attorney during 2009 and 2010.
Ms. Groom and her now deceased husband, Bill, raised their son, Will, in Greenland,
where he graduated from Greenland Public Schools in 2005.
Since entering retirement, Ms. Groom has served on the Staff Parrish Relations Board of
her church and on the Washington County Historical Society’s Board of directors, where she presently serves as President of the Board of Directors.
